Plank Structural Systems
Delivering a sustainable, non-concrete, manufactured foundation system.
Plank is a patented, non-concrete, manufactured foundation system that replaces traditional concrete slabs-on-grade, reducing the carbon footprint of materials fabrication and transportation, as well as the heating and cooling emissions and costs of the building, due to the high insulation potential of the Plank core. The Plank innovation is also highly precise because it allows for digital fabrication of the foundation system.
Attached onto helical piers, Plank is extremely fast to install (think days, not weeks) and generates no waste on site as it comes fully assembled, including insulation and waterproofing. It is more cost-effective by up to 30% than the traditional concrete slab-on-grade process. It is the first solution of its kind to address prefabricated foundations to meet the demands of today's housing needs and can help deliver projects faster and more affordably while also providing a sustainable and climate-resilient solution.
Plank was tested for strength and seismic at UC Berkeley's PEER lab and outperformed 3,000 psi concrete. Because of it's unique structure with foam and steel and it's pre-coordinated layout based on a project's design, Plank offers ultimate flexibility in terms of utility chases with pre-cut openings as needed.
While Plank is a natural fit for slab-on-grade foundations, it also can be used for basement or crawlspace applications.
Plank's design has been stamped and approved by International Structural Engineering and Product Development firm Holmes Engineering and Holmes Solutions.
